“Terre Piane”, the flat lands road, winds through a large area of the plains between the Panaro River and the border with the province of Reggio Emilia, touching on all the town council areas of the Modenese plains. The main aim of the itineraries proposed along the road is not only to present the historical, environmental and cultural features, but also to encourage marketing of the typical products of the territory.
The small courts of the nobility of the Po Valley plains – among which Carpi, Finale Emilia, Mirandola and San Felice sul Panaro stand out – form a framework around the rural countryside where some important typical plains products originated.
Terre Piane, in fact, is dotted with numerous firms that produce and sell their own goods, offering a warm welcome as well as close contact with nature.
Special signs give tourists the chance to learn about the main companies involved in this enterprise and to see their typical products on sale: Lambrusco Salamino di Santa Croce DOC and the Lambrusco di Sorbara DOC; the production areas of the Traditional Balsamic Vinegar from Modena; the organic orchards where the typical pear of Emilia Romagna and the “campanina” apple are cultivated; the rice and native vegetable cultivation areas; melon and watermelon production and the dairies that transform milk into Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.
