Spezzano Castle opens its doors to virtual visitors, offering three comprehensive tours, including Spezzano Castle with its array of frescoes, the Museum of Ceramics and a chance to learn all about the techniques used by potters and ceramists, and the Labour Section, to discover the history of the industrial tile district.
Breathe in the Renaissance atmosphere of the porticoed courtyard and cross the private apartments of the Pio di Savoia family. Immerse yourself in the frescoes of castles, towns and towers in the Room of Views and discover the unusual clothing worn by the infantrymen and cavalry painted in the Gallery of Battles.
Go down the stairs into the basement, where the story of the men and women who made ceramics in the tile district begins. Catch a glimpse of the production line, with the press, enamelling machine and kiln trolley. Use the kinect device to listen to the voices of the factory workers tell you all about it. Come in the future for a first-hand use of this device, which is activated with simple movements of the body.
Browse through the display rooms, the artefacts, the potter’s tools and reconstructions of kilns, from the Neolithic Age to the present day. In the contemporary section, come so close to over 100 tiles that it almost seems as if you could touch them. Discover the ceramic artworks of designers and artists in the Contemporary Collection.
