Streets, palaces and apothecaries: Imola and the Hospital Pharmacy - A journey among villas and castles

The Library is housed in the historic 14th-century Franciscan convent, with the lower church still visible at the entrance. The spectacular 18th-century staircase leads to the Franciscan library, which is not usually accessible.

The original furnishings and frescoed vaulted ceiling form the oldest part of the library, which houses around 10,000 antique volumes.

Inside, the exhibition “Esposti alla vita” (Exposed to Life) tells the stories of the children taken in by the Ospedale degli Esposti in Imola over 500 years, through archive documents, and also bears witness to the important welfare role that the hospital played for the city.
 

The guided tour is part of the exhibition ‘A journey among Villas and Castles’.

• The venue is easily accessible by train from Bologna and is located just a 15-minute walk from Imola railway station (approximately 1 km).

• Not suitable for wheelchair users or people with severe mobility impairments (stairs present).
