A fascinating bike tour through meadows, reclaimed canals, and unique rural architecture, where nature, history, and engineering come together. The highlights of the route are the Barchessoni, historic buildings originally used for horse breeding.
The most iconic is the Barchessone Vecchio (built in 1824), known as the “Basilica of the Wetlands.” Today, it serves as a multipurpose space and hosts the Environmental Education Center “La Raganella.” The tour also includes the Barbiere and Portovecchio Barchessoni—the latter houses a collection of historical farming and horse-breeding tools and reflects the area's military past.
This area is part of the “Mirandola Wetlands” Special Protection Zone, within the Natura 2000 network, featuring meadows, woodlands, and wetlands that provide a vital habitat for many nesting and migratory bird species.
