The fee includes:

  • Guided tour inside the Ducal Palace of Modena, visiting both the museum rooms of the Military Academy and the rooms of the State apartments.

Built starting in 1634 on a project by the Roman architect Bartolomeo Avanzini, the Palace housed the Estense Court for more than two centuries until the last Duke Francesco V of Austria-Este (1859). 

San Domenico Church, became the court church when the Este family came to Modena and made the city the capital of its duchy.


The tour itinerary includes:

The Courtyard of Honor, the Parlatory, the Staircase of Honor, the Loggiato, the Museum Room of the Military Academy (the private apartment of the Dukes), and the State Apartment. 

The Palazzo Ducale is home to the Military Academy which reserves the right, in exceptional cases, to cancel the guided tours for any reason. Paid tickets will be refunded.

The visit also includes a guided tour of the Church of San Domenico, both inside and outside. In the baptistery, since 1823, there has been a terracotta sculptural group by Antonio Begarelli depicting Jesus in the house of Martha, Mary Magdalene with the Apostles Peter and Paul, and other women (16th century).

Access is by reservation only and includes a guided tour. Reservations will be accepted until all available spots are filled.

Cancellation policy:
Cancellations with a refund or changes to the reservation are allowed up to 48 hours before the activity begins.

General conditions

  • For security reasons, access to the Ducal Palace is not permitted with flip-flops or similar footwear.

  • Participants are not allowed to bring large bags (e.g. backpacks, laptop bags, or similar items). Small handbags or small shoulder bags are permitted.

  • Animals of any size are not allowed, even if kept inside carriers or bags.

  • Eating and drinking are not permitted inside the Palace.

  • Smoking, taking photographs, or using video recording devices inside the Ducal Palace is strictly prohibited.

Accessibility of the visit:
In accordance with the safety regulations of the Military Academy, visitors with mobility difficulties, disabilities, or specific medical conditions—particularly those with motor impairments—are kindly requested to contact the Tourist Information Office (tel. +39 059 2032660 / info@visitmodena.it) in advance to make a reservation. This will allow an assessment of the accessibility of the route, as the Palace contains architectural barriers that may make the visit difficult or, in some cases, not feasible. The visit is not accessible for wheelchair users.
