In the heart of Modena, in one of the city’s most picturesque areas, stands the Aedes Muratoriana, one of the most distinctive blocks in the historic center.

Located at Via della Pomposa 1, on the small square of the same name, this complex includes the Church of Santa Maria della Pomposa, the rectory where Ludovico Antonio Muratori (1672–1750) lived, and its adjoining garden.

Accompanied by a local tour guide, you will visit the Muratorian Museum, inaugurated in 1931 and dedicated to the life and work of Lodovico Antonio Muratori—renowned writer, historian, ducal advisor and librarian, as well as parish priest of the Church of Santa Maria della Pomposa. Inside the museum you can admire original relics, autograph documents, and personal belongings, including his walking stick, inkwell, desk, and librarian’s armchair. The collection also features a wall clock, a crucifix gifted by Paolo Segneri, a kneeler, a baptismal font, and an extensive selection of portraits in painting, graphic art, and sculpture.
