Guided tour in the Abbey, the Benedectine Diocesan Museum and the Civic Museum of Nonantola at the Torre dei Bolognesi
Guided itinerary discovering Nonantola, a town deeply connected to the history of the Abbey and to Benedictine culture, where spirituality, art, and local identity have been intertwined for centuries. The visit leads into the heart of the town and its main museum sites: the Benedictine Diocesan Museum, which preserves highly valuable testimonies linked to religious tradition and the history of the Abbey, and the Civic Museum of Nonantola, housed in the evocative spaces of the Torre dei Bolognesi, where the history of Nonantola in the Middle Ages is explored in light of the archaeological excavations directed by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
On the third floor of the museum, in addition to artifacts from the excavations, visitors can admire a series of virtual reality reconstructions of Nonantola from the 8th century—when the Benedictine monastery was founded—to the 14th century, when the Bolognese built a new system of fortifications around the abbey and the settlement.
An itinerary through artifacts, artworks, documents, and narratives that allows visitors to trace the evolution of Nonantola over time, from its medieval origins to more recent memory.
