Popular Rites and Beliefs of Mirandola: the Almanac

Calculation of the Lunario (Almanac) can be described as an annual handbook outlining one's daily destiny by the moon and stars.

The scholar Vilmo Cappi from Mirandola writes: "Bernardon's predictions have become legendary and still today, among atomic bombs and artificial satellites, no one can reasonably protest against the linchpins of our ancient and famous Almanac: it is hot in summer and cold in winter."
The Bernardon is a famous Almanac of the Low-lying areas of the province. It is still printed in Mirandola and his name, in slang is used to mean a "bespectacled person", is always represented in a high dormer window with binoculars pointed toward the stars.
