The Art of Mechanical Thought (Modena)

Robotic sculptures, nature, and artificial intelligence in the art of Donato Piccolo

Palazzo Santa Margherita, Corso Canalgrande, 103

The Art of Mechanical Thought is the solo exhibition by artist Donato Piccolo, curated by Lorenzo Respi and promoted by Fondazione Ago Modena Fabbriche Culturali as part of the UNESCO Media Arts program, running from May 30 to August 24, 2025, at Palazzo Santa Margherita.

The exhibition unfolds at the intersection of art, science, and technology, where nature and the artificial engage in a dialogue, merge, and question each other. The works, animated by electronic devices, robotics, and artificial intelligence, transform the exhibition experience into a direct encounter with matter in motion, where each installation reveals a living tension between body and machine, nature and perception. It is a unique opportunity to explore Donato Piccolo’s approach, one of the leading figures on the international contemporary art scene.
